Talk•2•Me is the latest in talk ware from Chris Salzmann. With Talk•2•Me your mac becomes an intercom allowing you to talk by voice -in real time- to all connected macs. But wait, That's not all! It also works as an answering machine, recording incoming messages and even playing personalized messages to specific callers.

  13. Talk•2•Me.Answer is a very small background only application which allows you to receive messages sent by Talk•2•Me. Talk•2•Me.Answer is not needed to receive messages if Talk•2•Me is installed.

  21. • You need:
  22.   - System 7.x
  23.   - a microphone, built-in or a MacRecorder, if you want talk. 
  24.   - Appletalk turned ON (in the chooser)
  25.   - Program Linking turned ON (in control panel - sharing setup)
  26.   - a user account with the Program Linking Option ON (prefer the <Guest> account if
  27.         you  want to receive messages from any everyone. 
  28.                                                                                           (in control panel - users and groups - <anyuser>)

  30. • Quick Start:
  31. ◊ Part one:
  32.     - Turn AppleTalk ON
  33.     - Turn Program Linking ON
  34.     - Check the <Guest> Program Linking Option
  35.     - Double click on Talk•2•Me
  36.     - Select  <-> me   in the list
  37.     - Click on the Talk button and say something to you microphone, when finished 
  38.         release the mouse button. 
  39.     - Hear your message !
  40. ◊ Part two:
  41.     - Now you can install Talk•2•Me.Answer in another mac. 
  42.     - Copy it into the start-up Item folder (in the system folder)
  43.     - Set AppleTalk, Program Linking and <Guest> Program Linking Option the same way as 
  44.         in the  first part.
  45.     - Restart your mac or double-click on Talk•2•Me.Answer to launch it.
  46. ◊ Part three:
  47.     - Go back to the previous Mac.
  48.     - Select UpdateUserList in the File Menu.
  49.     - You'll see the name of the Mac where Talk•2•Me.Answer is installed under '<-> Me'.
  50.     - Users with   -> can only receive message
  51.     - Users with <-> can receive and send voice message.

  56. ◊ To Talk to more than one Talk•2•Me users:
  57.     - Select users with shift click.
  58.     - Click on the talk button, same as for one user.
  59.     - Voila ! The message will be sent to all the selected users.

  61. ◊ To see Talk•2•Me users in other zones
  62.     - Click on the zoom box to open the full window.
  63.     - Select one or more zones. The users list will be updated automatically.

  65. ◊ To assign a HotKey to a specific user
  66.     - Double click on a user in the list with the Option key down.
  67.     - Press the key you want to assign to this user. (keys F1 to F15, A to Z and 0 to 9)
  68.     - Now you can press the hot key to talk to the specific user. (works the same way as
  69.          the Talk button)
  70.     - The hot keys are saved in the preferences file.

  72. ◊ To use the answering machine capabilities.
  73.     - Click on the zoom box to open the full window.
  74.     - Select the Auto Answer box.
  75.     - If you haven't recorded a Default message, you will be asked to at this time.
  76.     - The Default message (if no other message is specified) will be heard by the caller 
  77.         when he/she tries to talk to you.

  79. ◊ To record automatic response for a selected user:
  80.     - Click on the record button (red).
  81.     - Type the name of the user. (The name which appears on the user list).
  82.     - Record the message.
  83.     - The Specified message will be heard by the caller when he/she tries to talk to you.
  84.     - You can play it back by selecting the message in the list and clicking the play button 
  85.         (blue).
  86.     - You can erase a selected message by clicking the erase button (black).

  88. ◊ To record incoming messages:
  89.     - Click on the zoom box to open the full window.
  90.     - Select the Record Message box.
  91.     - Incoming messages will be then saved and added
  92.          to the list with the name of the caller, the date and the time.
  93.     - You can play and erase the selected messages as you wish.

  95. ◊ You can use the AutoGuest INIT to automatically invoke the <Guest> option if it is 
  96.         available on the remote machine.

  98. ◊ Talk•2•Me.Answer has a 98 K memory partition but it can run with a 7 K memory     
  99.         partition, in this case system memory will be used instead of application memory, 
  100.         so long messages might not be played and will depend on the system.

  103. ◊ Has been successfully tested on a Quadra 900 & 700, Mac 2cx, Mac 2ci, Mac SE30.
